Google Ads For Local Service Based Businesses

Feb 22, 2024

Are you a local business owner who needs to get more leads…right NOW!

And the best part? This works even if you have a small budget.

1. Start with search campaigns

The reason why this is so important is that Performance Max is designed to focus on getting you more conversions from the existing conversion data in your account but if you don’t have any conversion data … this is, of course, a waste of time.

The other reason for why you want to start with search campaigns is that they give you the most data. You can see:

- What search terms are triggering your ads, so you can then add in negative keywords to filter out non-targeted traffic.

- Which ad copies are giving you the highest CTR and conversion rates. Plus, you can set up 2 ads per ad group so you can run manual split testing.

2. Focus on core services and locations

Focus on the low hanging fruit or easy wins to start. This is especially true if you have a limited budget. If you have a limited budget of $20 a day and 5 different services you want to market, rather than spreading that $20 too thin across all 5 services at $4 a day, you are better off focusing on 1 or 2 services at $10 or $20 a day.

And then further than that, rather than spending your budget city-wide, focus on the 3-5 suburbs that are the best performing for you. By targeting by postcode or zip codes.

Remember, the goal here is to get some early success with Google Ads so that you can then reinvest this money back into Google Ads to generate more growth for your business.

3. Separate your call campaigns

If you are wanting to run call-only ads, I would recommend separating these out into 2 different search campaigns.

You do this because call ads, while highly profitable, usually have a much higher CPC. So, by putting these in a separate campaign, you can do some extra optimizations - especially by keywords to block out any underperforming search terms.

The way you do this is to:

- Create 2 x search campaigns

- 1 campaign that targets Mobile devices only and runs call-only ads

- The other campaign targets desktop & tablets

4. Link your Google Business Profile for local extensions

This allows your ads to also show on Google Maps PLUS you can also get extended ads in search as Google will show the location extension.

This then brings us to the most important strategy and that is to make sure you create your own Google Ads battle plan.
