How To Use The NEW Google Ads Dashboard Design

Apr 27, 2023

Google Ads, one of the most popular advertising platforms, has changed its dashboard yet again. This news might be frustrating for some advertisers who have just recently adapted to the previous update, which happened in 2017. However, it's important to understand that changes are an inevitable part of any technology-driven product.

The new dashboard may take some time to get used to, but it's important to embrace it. The changes in the current dashboard will only be around for a few years, as Google Ads will undoubtedly make further changes in the future. Therefore, it's better to adapt to the new dashboard as soon as possible. Those who take the time to learn and adapt to the new dashboard will be better equipped to create successful campaigns. So instead of being frustrated, embrace the changes and keep on learning.

Gradual Rollout of the New Dashboard

It's worth noting that the new dashboard is not rolled out to all accounts yet. Out of the 60 Google Ads accounts that I have access to, only 3 have this new layout option. These 3 accounts share a commonality; they are brand new accounts. If you don’t see the changes yet, they will likely be available to you soon.

Key Changes in the New Dashboard

To better understand the changes to the new dashboard, you can watch my new YouTube video that highlights the main updates. Here’s a summary of the key changes:

Navigation and Layout

The new Google Ads dashboard maintains a three-column format, similar to the previous layout. However, there are notable differences:

  • Left Column: Previously focused on campaigns, now includes tools and settings, reporting, and more, similar to the layout of Google Analytics 4 (GA4).
  • Middle Column: Enhanced with dropdown menus for campaigns, assets, audiences, keywords, and content, making navigation more intuitive.
  • Right Column: Displays detailed data, similar to the previous layout but with some added functionalities.

Enhanced Data Grouping

The new layout groups related elements together, making it easier to access:

  • Campaigns: All campaign-related data is easily accessible.
  • Assets: Site links, call extensions, and other assets are grouped together.
  • Audiences, Keywords, and Content: These are now in one place, helping advertisers manage targeting more effectively.

Improved Insights and Reporting

The new dashboard includes a dedicated insights and reports tab, which will be particularly useful for Performance Max and Search campaigns. While some functionalities are still under development, Google has promised more updates soon.

Practical Tips for Using the New Dashboard

  • Familiarize Yourself with the Layout: Spend time exploring the new layout to understand where everything is located.
  • Use the Search Bar: If you get lost, the search bar at the top is a helpful tool to quickly find what you need.
  • Take Advantage of Grouped Data: The new grouping of assets, audiences, keywords, and content can help streamline your campaign management.

Community Support and Learning

For ongoing support and to stay updated with the latest Google Ads changes, consider joining a community of like-minded advertisers. For example, the 10x Google Ads Community offers monthly masterclasses, live group coaching, and a community feed for questions and answers. Engaging with a community can provide valuable insights and help you adapt to changes more efficiently.

Change is never easy, but it's important to keep up with updates to stay competitive. The new Google Ads dashboard design, while different, offers several enhancements that can improve your campaign management. By taking the time to learn and adapt, you can continue to run successful Google Ads campaigns.
