The 3 Must-Have Scripts for Google Ads
AI and automation are transforming how people use search engines and how we manage Google Ads.
If you’re not using scripts or automation tools in your Google Ads campaigns, you’re already falling behind.
Top Google Ads professionals and agencies are leveraging scripts to save time, improve accuracy, and uncover insights that the standard Google Ads dashboard simply can’t deliver.
Today, I want to share the top three scripts that I personally use and recommend to every business, agency, and freelancer managing Google Ads.
These scripts were chosen for three main reasons:
-
Ease of use
-
The amount of time they save
-
They provide data and insights that go beyond what’s available in the Google Ads dashboard
1. Keyword N-Gram Analysis
A Keyword N-Gram Analysis reviews all of your search terms and groups them by single words or word combinations.
In simple terms, it helps you find patterns in your search term data showing which words consistently perform and which do not.
Real examples:
-
An e-commerce brand selling military-grade dive masks found a significant performance gap between searches using the word “dive” versus “snorkel.”
-
An air conditioning company discovered that users searching the word “calculator” were far more likely to convert, leading them to create a new campaign focused on that theme.
Why it’s powerful:
-
Helps identify negative keyword themes
-
Reveals new keyword opportunities
-
Informs whether to segment ad groups or campaigns
There are many versions of this script online, but my preferred choice is the N-Gram Script from Mike Rhodes’ Ads to AI.
2. Smart Bidding Analysis
This script was created in collaboration between myself and Mike Rhodes.
Your bidding strategy is one of the most influential factors in overall Google Ads performance. Getting it wrong can significantly reduce profitability, but getting it right can transform your results.
The Smart Bidding Analysis Script helps you:
-
Understand how Google’s automated bidding is performing
-
Identify inconsistencies across campaigns using Target CPA or Target ROAS
-
See where your bidding strategy may be misaligned with your business goals
You can also use the Smart Bidding Checklist alongside this script to optimise your strategy in a structured way.

3. PMAX Script (by Mike Rhodes)
The number three script on this list is Mike Rhodes’ PMAX Script which you can get here.
When Google updated its Performance Max dashboard earlier this year, some assumed this script would become redundant. However, that is not the case.
While Google has improved its native data reporting, Mike’s PMAX Script still provides deeper insights and clearer visibility into what is actually happening within your campaigns.
What it helps you do:
-
Review campaign-level performance across multiple PMAX campaigns
-
Identify product overlap that wastes budget
-
Analyse individual product performance to improve profitability
For anyone running Performance Max campaigns, this script remains essential.
Final Thoughts
Automation is the future of Google Ads, but it does not mean campaigns can be left to run without oversight.
Scripts act as the bridge between automation and control. They save time, eliminate guesswork, and help you make more informed decisions faster.
Check the links below to access all three scripts, along with the Smart Bidding Checklist.
If you are unsure where to begin or how to implement these scripts within your own account, complete the “How Can We Help You” quiz and we will recommend the best approach for your business.
Have a great week,
